Yeovil & Wells win the Southern Mens League Division 2W 2012

Yeovil & Wells went to Horsham knowing that a 5th place finish in the final match would guarantee the League Title. A number of athletes were called up to the Yeovil British Athlete's League team and so a small group of 10 athletes did battle at Horsham. The end result was truly superb with Yeovil winning the final match by 40 points to win the league in style (with 4 wins out of 5 matches). The team spirit was epitomised by Stuart Richards competing in 8 events and scoring a huge total of 39 points, even running a pb in the chase and notching up a seasons best in pole vault. Paul Guest scored 20 points and gained a pb in the hammer with a 'massive' 15.77. There were personal bests everywhere - James Tostevin 23.7 in the 200, Brendon Timewell 1.70 high jump, Tom Bryan 11.65 triple jump, Paul Allen 2.06 in the 800 and Simon Prior 8.07 shot putt. Whilst Staurt Richards was 'athlete of the match' it was Sam Harding who was 'best performer' with personal bests in the 400 (54.0) and 800 (2.02) as well as impressive runs in both relays. Ashley Harvey did his fair share of running after winning his pole vault and Mark Wiscombe joined in the fun with a strong second in the 1500. We even had three officials to help and witness the victory - thanks to Roger, Larry and Ginny.
This has been an outstanding season with so many athletes performing brilliantly for the team's cause. All of the many athletes who have turned out for the Southern Mens League can be proud of themselves and can be proud to be a part of such a successful club - well done to all.
