Uk Athletics have awarded Yeovil Olympiads Athletic Club the title of Top Athletics Team in the South West. The accolade follows the team’s second consecutive record breaking season and with membership growing, the club are picking up the pace for 2010.

At the club’s recent award ceremony, Club Chairman Bruce Pointer said of the success...

"All of the teams, from seniors to juniors, have exceeded expectations with higher finish positions in their respective leagues during 2009. We’re particularly proud of the Senior Men’s Team who became the first Somerset club to compete in the British Athletics League and by wining their league gained promotion"

This achievement was also recognised by South Somerset District Council who awarded the Club Top Sports Team in the area.

The Club attributes a lot of the success to the great team of experienced and qualified volunteer coaches, it’s corporate sponsors, Agusta Westland, the Quedam Shopping Centre, Ward Sibley and Yeovil Town Council, and also the appointment of a part-time professional Community Coach, Stuart Richards, whose position is part funded by England Athletics, Somerset Active Sports Partnerships and South Somerset District Council.

Mr Pointer added “with all of this support, we’re excited about what we can achieve in 2010, it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to shine a light on the talented Athletes we have in Yeovil, and to continue to build links with the local community".
